Inviz - natural zein coatings

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who Is POET?

A: POET, the largest ethanol producer in the world, is a leader in biorefining through its efficient, vertically integrated approach to ethanol production. The 22-year-old company produces more than 1.54 billion gallons of ethanol and 4 million tons of dried distiller's grains (DDGs) annually from 26 production facilities nationwide. For more information, visit POET.com.

Q: How are POET and InvizTM associated?

A: InvizTM is a co-product of POET’s unique biorefining methods.

Q: What is zein?

A: Zein is a class of prolamine proteins found in corn that has a number of unique characteristics and functionalities. Pure zein is colorless, odorless, tasteless, hard, and water-insoluble.

Q: How is InvizTM zein made?

A: InvizTM is derived from the less valuable protein in POET’s Dakota Gold® HP™ distillers grains. It differs from other zein products because POET’s production process fractionates the corn kernel and ferments ethanol without using heat. For that reason, Inviz is a more pure corn protein than other zein products, which typically require the use of sulfur dioxide in production.

Q: What is zein used for?

A: Zein can be used in several applications, some which are listed below:

  • Paper coatings
  • Biodegradable plastics
  • Fabric
  • Agricultural films
  • Food Packaging
  • Adhesive
  • Many more
