John Lawton, a Senior Scientist at POET investigates the co-products derived from bioethanol production in order to find new value added uses for them. Over the past 20 years, John has been proactive in the study of physical and chemical properties of cereals and their components. He is a nationally and internationally recognized authority on the physical properties and polymer properties of cereal proteins and starches. Twenty five peer reviewed journal publications, four patents, four book chapters, and 20 presentations have resulted from his research on cereals and their components. He is committed to the development and characterization of proteins and starch based materials and he applies the fundamentals of polymer science to cereal proteins and starches. Prior to joining the POET team, John was the Lead Scientist of the National Program (NP) 306 CRIS project entitled "Nonfood Utilization of Cereal and Soy Based Co-Products" at the National Center for Agricultural Utilization Research, Peoria, IL. John Lawton is a member of AACC International and is the current co-chair of the Journal Committee. John is also a member of the BioEnvironmental Polymer Society.
